Security Systems Team Fortifies Campus Security Program

security

Designing, installing and servicing departmental access control, biometric recognition, intrusion detection and panic alarm systems. Programing access control systems, video surveillance and equipment related to the alarm monitoring station. These are just a few tasks of Facilities Management’s security system team in protecting the campus’ assets.  Their mission? To maintain a secure environment that furthers UCLA’s mission of learning and research. How? By identifying and preventing breaches into physical infrastructures and electronic security systems.

Comprised of Lead Electrician Gabriel Mora and Journeyman Electrician Perry Whitman, this two-person team’s paramount duty is to ensure the safety of the entire campus community. With their combined technical expertise, along with occasional assistance from other members of the Electrical/Alarm Shop, they collaborate with various departments, such as UCPD and Emergency Management, to develop and implement comprehensive security solutions. At times, clients special-request for an intricate system that allows interaction with other unique systems. Applying their invaluable knowledge allows the team to make this a reality.

For the last six months the team embarked on several projects to refine the campus’ overall security posture. Topping the list is the upgrade to the Southern Regional Library access control system to Bruincard and installing the MRL building BSL3 lab security and access control systems. Further, the team is installing Bruincard access to the main entry points of buildings throughout campus, as well as the newly renovated Nimoy Theater located off campus.
