Elevator Systems Update Improves Performance & Reliability

elevator mechanics

The Elevator Shop is currently working on a project to replace the elevator control systems and other components on the six (6) elevators located at YRL (Young Research Library). This project is led by Elevator Mechanics Tim Burhans and Charlie Uribe, pictured above, with support from our shop team and several other trades.

With the assistance of our team, Tim & Charlie will remove the existing, antiquated control systems and replace them with new, microprocessor control systems. They will also replace the antiquated door systems, push button fixtures in the cab and hallways, governor systems and all of the associated wiring. This will help to improve the performance and reliability of the elevators and extend their life by 20 - 25 years. The new systems and components will also provide energy savings, more visually appealing fixtures and more system functionality.

This project takes approximately three months per elevator to complete and they are almost finished with the first elevator. We engage the other FM shops as needed and our thanks go out to the Electrical Systems, Alarm, Plumbing, Sheetmetal and Mason shops.
