A New Look Above: Carpenter Shop Transforms School of Dentistry Lab

Exposed ceiling wires on left; classroom interior with new ceiling gridson right.

The UCLA Facilities Management Carpenter Shop completed a ceiling retrofit at the School of Dentistry, transforming an aging laboratory ceiling into a cleaner, more modern space.

The project involved removing the existing ceiling grid and deteriorated ceiling tiles, followed by the installation of a new suspended ceiling system. Working around existing ductwork, electrical systems, and laboratory equipment, the crew carefully navigated the challenges of the space to complete the retrofit. The Carpenter Shop also worked alongside the Electrical Shop, which installed new lighting as part of the renovation. This coordinated effort between trades helped bring the project together, giving the laboratory a brighter, cleaner, and more updated appearance.

The completed project highlights the craftsmanship, teamwork, and attention to detail that UCLA Facilities Management brings to campus improvements, demonstrating how different trades work together to maintain and enhance university facilities.
