Active Smart Buildings and Labs
• Replaced and/or upgraded aging and inefficient HVAC equipment and controls
• Installed occupancy sensors for HVAC and future lighting control
• Reinforced the campus standard for temperature setpoints
• Programmed mechanical system to operate based on building schedules
• Added capability to control building systems down to the room level
Fact Sheet - General Areas
Overview of Energy Conservation Measures in the Ceramic & Sculpture Studios:
• Converted system to variable air volume control for ventilation demand capability
• HVAC lockout sensors installed on overhead and side doors
• Purge button added to switch system to maximum ventilation mode for 1 hour
Fact Sheet - Ceramic & Sculpture Studios
Overview of Energy Conservation Measures:
• Optimized mechanical system sequences of operation
• Installed occupancy sensors for lighting in some areas
• Optimized air handling unit schedules
Future Planned Work in the Building:
• LED lamp/fixture replacement
• Additional occupancy sensors to control ventilation and lighting systems
• Upgrade building system controls down to the room level
• Provide ventilation based on space use and operational needs

Work in Progress Buildings and Labs
Phase 2-3: Duct Cleaning/Pre-Construction
Overview of Duct Cleaning:
• All supply air duct work will be cleaned except in the vivarium
• Interior supply air duct lining will be encapsulated
• Supply diffusers and exhaust grilles will be cleaned
• All supply air post-filters and obstructions will be removed
Duct Cleaning Impacts to Building Occupants:
• Duct cleaning will start at night and stopped in the early morning
• Supply air will be shut off on a nightly basis (vivarium will remain on)
• Temperature sensitive spaces, equipment may be affected
• Animals, flies will not have temperature control while air is off
• Unsafe to work while supply air is turned off
